Four diamond tools for mainstream composite processing

Solid carbide matrix diamond reinforced drill bits have proven to be very successful. Because they can maintain a sharper state than conventional solid carbide tools when processing composite materials.

There are currently four diamond-enhanced tools on the market suitable for processing composite materials:

1. CVD diamond coated cemented carbide - combines the high wear resistance of diamond with the dimensional accuracy of carbide tools. The disadvantage is that the coating is thicker, which may reduce the sharpness of the cutting edge and even cause the cutting edge to deviate from the correct geometry.

2. PVD diamond coated cemented carbide - combines the high wear resistance of diamond with the dimensional accuracy of carbide tools. The cutting edge is sharper and the cutting edge geometry is better controlled.

3. Brazed diamond inserts on the solid carbide substrate - suitable for diamond wear resistance requirements only on the leading edge of the tool.

4. High-pressure monolithic sintered diamond (PCD) solid carbide drill bit - characterized by sintered diamond (PCD) in the entire carbide cutting edge.
