Fudan University professor team successfully prepared fabric solar cells

Professor Peng Huisheng of the School of Polymer Science of our school recently adopted a new method of superimposing fabric electrodes to successfully fabricate fabric solar cells. Wearable devices are the mainstream development direction of today's electronic devices. In addition to meeting their own functions, such electronic devices also need to be lightweight, flexible, and woven. In recent years, there have been many attempts to produce linear micro-cells, which are lighter and more woven than traditional planar structures. These linear devices can be woven into various fabrics through textile technology, but it is still difficult to technically fabricate linear solar cells into fabrics.

Prof. Peng Huisheng’s research group made further breakthroughs on the bottleneck of the technology on the basis of the research of the early linear solar cells. First, they adsorbed the photoactive material onto the titanium silk fabric as a working electrode, and then the oriented carbon nanotube fibers with excellent mechanical and electrical properties were used as the counter electrode. Finally, two fabric electrodes were subtly added and electrolysis was added. After liquid encapsulation, fabric solar cells are obtained.

It is reported that once this new technology is introduced to the market, it will greatly change the daily electricity consumption mode of today's mankind, and it will play a solar charging advantage in the field trips, scientific expeditions, and other circumstances to avoid the shortage of electricity and the search for power.
