According to a survey analyst from the Energy and Environment Department at Sullivan, "Electric water generates more hydrogen per unit of hydrogen than it generates per unit of hydrogen produced. Hydrogen's energy conversion efficiency is very low.

Hydrogen is difficult to store. When hydrogen is compressed, the hydrogen released is less than the hydrogen in the atmosphere. Only about 2% of the hydrogen can be used in the compression process. Therefore, it can be said that compared with fossil fuels, less hydrogen can be used. ”

Converting fossil fuels to electrical energy usually takes only one step. However, hydrogen is not the same and it takes 2 steps. Water must first be converted to hydrogen by electrical energy before it can be burned to produce electricity. In addition, the use of electrical energy to store energy in batteries is easier and less costly than storing hydrogen in hydrogen tanks.

The analyst also pointed out that “the need to electrolyze water, low energy density, multiple energy conversions, and difficulties in storage cause hydrogen to be limited in special uses such as rocket fuel. As long as there is no breakthrough in technology in this area, Hydrogen is not suitable as a new energy alternative to fossil fuels in the 21st century."
