Furniture spot checks on some panel furniture in Shandong are unqualified

In a recent inspection conducted by the Shandong Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, several furniture brands were found to be non-compliant with safety standards. The check involved 30 batches of panel furniture products from 30 different manufacturers across the province. Among the brands affected were Grant's, Dragon, and others, with three specific models failing to meet the required quality criteria. The inspection was carried out based on key national standards such as GB18584-2001, which sets limits on hazardous substances in wooden furniture, GB5296.6-2004 for consumer product instructions, and GB/T 3324-2008 for general technical conditions of wooden furniture. The tests covered multiple aspects including formaldehyde emissions, label consistency, surface physical and chemical properties, mechanical performance, and more. One of the main issues identified was excessive formaldehyde emissions, which can pose serious health risks if not properly controlled. Additionally, some products were found to have incomplete or misleading usage instructions, raising concerns about consumer safety and transparency. Specifically, the "Ge's" plate furniture model with dimensions 450 × 440 × 400 mm from Ge's Aote Furniture Factory in Licheng District, Jinan City, failed the test. Another non-compliant item was the Feilong brand panel furniture measuring 1100 × 400 × 650 mm from Feilong Education Equipment Co., Ltd. Furthermore, a model from Long Furniture Factory in Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng City, with dimensions of 510 × 410 × 500 mm, also did not pass the inspection. These findings highlight the importance of strict adherence to quality and safety regulations in the furniture industry. Consumers are advised to pay close attention to product certifications and ensure that the furniture they purchase meets all relevant safety standards. Authorities have urged manufacturers to improve their production processes and ensure compliance with national regulations to protect public health and safety.
