Teach you how to properly weed tobacco fields

Tobacco plants have small seeds and a slow germination process, making them vulnerable to weed infestations. Common weeds found in tobacco fields include foxtail, thousand cattail, early glutinous rice, beef tendon grass, maiden grass, urn grass, sedge, pigweed, sorghum, plantain, dandelion, and more. Weed control in tobacco fields is typically divided into two stages: seedbed control and field control. Among various herbicides, 50% dichlorpyrifos wettable powder (produced by Sichuan Chuan’an Chemical Factory) stands out as the most effective option for managing weeds in tobacco cultivation. According to the China Pesticide Network, the comprehensive fresh weight control effect of 50% dichlorpyrifos WP on weeds in tobacco fields exceeds 90%, significantly reducing the damage caused by weeds to tobacco crops. The application methods and dosages vary depending on the growth stage of the tobacco plants: 1. For weeding in the seedbed, soil treatment is usually applied before sowing. This involves applying 100–120 g/667 m² of 50% dichlorpyrifos WP mixed with 50 kg of water, shaking well, and spraying it evenly over the soil surface. The treated soil should be mixed to a depth of 5 cm before sowing. Alternatively, after sowing, the same dosage (100–150 g/667 m²) can be sprayed directly onto the seedlings. 2. In the field, pre-transplant soil treatment is recommended 3–5 days before transplanting. Apply 100–200 g/667 m² of 50% dichlorpyrifos WP in 50 kg of water, spray evenly across the field, and mix the soil to a depth of 5 cm. After transplanting, the herbicide can also be applied 5–7 days later once the seedlings have established. Use 100–150 g/667 m² of the product in 50 kg of water, and spray it evenly over the seedlings. 50% dichlorpyrifos wettable powder has high efficacy, requiring only half the dose of Dahuili, and offers a larger safety margin. It does not harm tobacco seedlings and improves yield significantly. Once applied, it binds tightly to the soil and is not easily washed away by rain or leached. Its half-life in the soil is about 15 days, and it causes no environmental pollution. It is safe for crops such as wheat, cotton, soybeans, and peanuts. However, according to the China Pesticide Network, crops like beet, celery, sorghum, corn, and fennel are more sensitive to dichlorpyrifos. Therefore, it should not be used in these crops for at least three months. Always follow label instructions carefully when using this herbicide to ensure both effectiveness and safety.
