Strawberry topdressing promotes early onset

Strawberries require a significant amount of nutrients to grow and produce high-quality fruits. Each acre of land that yields around 750 kg of strawberries needs approximately 10 kg of nitrogen, 2.5 kg of phosphorus, and 10 kg of potassium annually. This highlights the importance of proper fertilization to ensure healthy growth and optimal yield.
To promote early growth, top-dressing should be applied after the soil thaws, before the strawberry plants begin to germinate. If organic fertilizer has already been used, apply 10 kg of urea or 15 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. It's essential to dissolve the fertilizer in water before application to prevent root burn. In mid-April, during the flowering period, another round of top-dressing should be done using compound fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium—about 10 kg per mu. Additionally, foliar spraying with 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be done two to three times, spaced about 10 days apart. During the fruit development stage, shallow watering is recommended before bud formation, followed by light irrigation during fruit expansion. Avoid flooding and perform shallow cultivation after each watering to maintain good soil aeration.
Thinning flower buds and flowers is also crucial for maximizing fruit quality. Stronger flower buds tend to produce larger, earlier fruits, while weaker ones often fail to develop into marketable fruit. Therefore, it’s important to remove weak buds and leave only 10 to 15 buds per plant. This helps concentrate nutrients on the most productive parts. Additionally, since strawberries are low-growing, their fruits can easily touch the ground, leading to contamination and rot. After flowering, spreading hay or straw around the plants can help keep the fruits off the ground. Remove the mulch after harvesting to maintain soil health.
Pest and disease control is another critical aspect of strawberry cultivation. In early spring, if pests like ground beetles, wireworms, or cockroaches are detected, you can use 90% trichlorfon crystals at 200 grams per acre, or 50% phoxim emulsion at 200–300 grams per acre, mixed with 1–1.5 kg of water for root drenching. Alternatively, mix 50 grams of trichlorfon with 1–1.5 kg of water and 2.5–3 kg of fried wheat bran, or spread the mixture over chopped fresh grass to attract and kill pests. For gray mold, spray 50% Nongli Ling WP diluted 800 times or 50% Keiling WP diluted 1000 times. To prevent brown spot, use 20% Agricultural Anti-120 at 200 times dilution or 50% carbendazim at 500–1000 times. For powdery mildew, apply 1.25% cyprodinil emulsifiable concentrate at 2000 times or 20% myclobutanil wettable powder at 1000 times. The best way to prevent viral diseases is to use virus-free seedlings and control aphids. At the first sign of infection, spray 1.5% phytopathogenic emulsion at 1000 times or 83 Anti-agent at 100 times. Cockroaches can be controlled with 50% chlorpyrifos WP at 2000 times or 10% imidacloprid WP at 1500–2000 times. Regular monitoring and timely intervention are key to maintaining healthy, productive strawberry plants.
