Double insulated glass

In the world of windows, glass is always at the center of the conversation. Traditional windows were typically made with single-pane or standard double-glazed glass. However, in recent years, a new type of glass called insulating glass has started gaining popularity in China. Although it was first developed by Americans back in 1865 and initially used for military purposes, this innovative product offers superior performance compared to regular double-glazed glass. It excels in thermal insulation, soundproofing, sealing, frost resistance, and dust prevention, making it a highly recognized choice.
In Beijing, there are now regulations requiring the use of insulating glass in areas close to roads. This type of glass works by sealing two or more layers of glass together, creating a static, dry gas space between them. It also has some vacuum properties. The main components include aluminum alloy spacers, angle plugs, butyl rubber, polysulfide rubber, and desiccants, all of which contribute to its excellent performance.
According to experts from Meichi doors and windows, the sealing and thermal insulation capabilities of insulating glass are remarkable due to its unique materials. A simple way to check if the glass is up to standard during winter is to look for condensation inside or outside the unit. If you see frost, it’s likely not meeting the required standards. This is because the polysulfide rubber prevents moisture from entering, the butyl rubber ensures a tight seal between the panes, and the aluminum spacer contains a desiccant that absorbs any remaining moisture.
On average, insulating glass can last between 8 to 10 years. Over time, water vapor may seep in, causing condensation to form. However, this is a gradual process. According to national regulations, if moisture appears within five years of installation, the product is still considered acceptable.
Today, several high-end door and window brands such as Merit, Garbo, and Schwell offer reliable insulating glass products that perform well over time. However, some smaller manufacturers may produce substandard versions, where the insulating glass is simply held together without proper sealing. As a consumer, it's important to be cautious and choose reputable brands to ensure effective insulation during the cold winter months.
