How to test the anti-static clothing friction performance?

Anti-static clothing is specifically designed using advanced anti-static and clean fabrics. These materials incorporate special polyester filaments with conductive fibers woven into the warp or weft, ensuring excellent static control, dust resistance, and a lightweight, smooth texture. During the manufacturing process, a specialized overlock machine is used to minimize particle generation. Additionally, dust-free Velcro fasteners are employed to prevent contamination caused by hair loss. Now, let's explore how to test the friction performance of anti-static clothing as outlined in the Wan Guan hardware grid series.
Depending on the required standards, different styles are available, incorporating conductive fibers to maintain electrical continuity. The sleeve and trousers feature a unique double-layer design, with the inner layer composed of conductive or anti-static ribs to meet the stringent requirements of high-level cleanroom environments.
Anti-static clothing is made from specially engineered fabric that offers long-lasting static dissipation and dust control, effectively neutralizing body static. It is widely used across various industries such as microelectronics, optoelectronics, solar energy, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food, cosmetics, petrochemicals, and military sectors—where electrostatic sensitivity and cleanliness are critical.
The testing procedure involves simulating the friction conditions that anti-static clothing may experience during use. First, the samples are placed in the friction device in a simulated wearing state (with buttons or zippers closed). Then, the instrument is operated according to the set parameters. After the test, the device is tilted, allowing the sample to automatically enter the Faraday cup. Alternatively, an insulating glove can be used to manually remove the sample, ensuring it is at least 300mm away from any object outside the cup.
Next, a Lintel tube is used to measure the overall charge. This process is repeated five times, with a 10-minute resting period between each test. A static eliminator is used to discharge both the sample and the standard cloth inside the drum. The final result is calculated as the average of the five measurements. If the clothing has a lining, it should be turned outward, and the same testing procedure should be repeated, with the results documented in the report.
