Mosaic selection installation

When choosing glass mosaic for ordinary home improvement projects, there are several key factors to consider. First, the glass mosaic should feature patterns such as stripes or other decorative elements, with the decorative area covering more than 20% of the total surface. The design should be evenly distributed for a balanced look.

Second, the back of each individual glass tile should have a rough or stepped groove structure. This helps improve adhesion and ensures the tiles stay firmly in place during installation.

Third, the adhesive used must not only provide strong bonding but also be easy to remove from the surface of the glass. It should not damage the backing paper or cause discoloration on the glass itself.

Fourth, when inspecting under natural light, the height of the mosaic should be approximately 40 cm. From this distance, visually check for any cracks, defects, or missing edges and corners.

Fifth, randomly select nine small glass mosaics and arrange them into a square. Place it in a well-lit area and observe the gloss from 1.5 meters away. If the shine is uneven, the mosaic may fade quickly in a wet bathroom environment, affecting the overall appearance of the wall.

Installation Steps:

Step 1: Surface Preparation – Before installation, make sure the base surface is smooth and clean. The area reserved for the mosaic should be at least 3–5 mm thicker than the required thickness. Thorough cleaning is essential before laying the tiles.

Step 2: Pre-Layout – Before starting the actual installation, pre-lay the tiles according to the construction drawing. For larger areas, use a numbered layout plan to ensure accuracy.

Step 3: Laying the Tiles – Apply a 2–3 mm thick layer of adhesive using a serrated trowel. Spread it evenly on the base, making sure the thickness is about 3–5 mm. Align the tiles according to the drawing and place them on the adhesive. Ensure that the gaps between tiles are consistent with the spacing of the smaller pieces. Use flat boards and gently tap the tiles with a rubber mallet to ensure good adhesion. If any tile is too high or low, adjust by removing or adding adhesive as needed.

Step 4: Grouting – Once the adhesive has dried sufficiently and gained initial strength, fill the gaps with grout using a wooden or rubber spatula. After the grout is fully set, proceed with cleaning to remove excess material and ensure a neat finish.
