Obsolete and Indifferent Concepts of Food Safety in Genetically Modified Rice and Chinese

Greenpeace’s China headquarters issued the “Supermarket Fresh Bulk Food Investigation Report”, which revealed that Wal-Mart and another large supermarket have two stores and were found to sell genetically modified rice. The survey shows that the two types of rice manufacturers are the Dragon Boat Rice Factory in Miluo City, Hunan Province and the Hubei Jianli Yinxin Rice Industry Company. However, the relevant manufacturers are arguing that their own rice raw materials were purchased from local villages. Local farmers do not know that glutinous rice is genetically modified rice, and they do not plant such new varieties.

It seems that if GM rice were to flow into China, then the Chinese would be as sloppy as GM soybean oil for more than a decade. From this example, we can see the indifference of Chinese people's concept of food safety.

A few years ago, the media of the United States and Japan exposed the issue of Chinese food safety. At that time, China’s public opinion believed that this was an expression of the people’s hostility towards China. However, in recent years, especially after the Sanlu incident, genetically modified incidents, and waste oil incidents, the Chinese people began to realize their own shortcomings in food safety issues. The State Council has also established a food safety committee headed by the central leadership. All this is a welcome change.

China is a big country for cooking. Chinese cuisine is also very popular abroad, but it is the dirtyness of the Chinese kitchen that foreigners cannot accept. To be honest, even in some small restaurants in Beijing, their health conditions are worrying. When they walked in, they thought they were toilets.

This situation may be part of China's diet culture. As the saying goes, "You are not clean and you have no illness." We look at the network of red people sharp brother, wandering in Ningbo for nearly a decade, relying on rubbish dump food for a living, but also did not see sharp brother died early.

This kind of thinking may be understandable in the agricultural society. It is an era of pure natural and pure green. This is as if the animals in the forest had not been washed and steamed. The human health standards were very poor. But it does not affect the long-term survival of animals.

However, in such a chemical era and gene era, most of the food we face has man-made chemicals inside. These things are not ubiquitous in the natural state, so this poses new difficulties for our food safety. Some chemicals can make people hormonal disorders, some will make people's teeth problems, and even worse, it will make people lose their reproductive ability.

However, the Chinese people have not yet clearly realized the changes of the times and are still viewing the problems in the agricultural age diet. This has laid a semblance for the food safety crisis. Everyone remembers that the Sanlu poisoned milk incident in 2008 made hundreds of thousands of infants and children become stone babies. The culprit is melamine, a food additive. If GM rice is another kind of scourge, it is still unknown. We must be careful.

In short, the problem is not terrible. The most terrible thing is that you do not realize the existence of the problem!
