1. Apply fully decomposed organic fertilizer. Fresh farmyard manure should be used only after it has been completely composted. Using organic fertilizer helps improve soil structure, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, and minimizes salt buildup in the soil.
2. Promote balanced fertilization. Combine organic fertilizer with NPK and micronutrient fertilizers. Adjust the amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus, reduce their use where possible, and increase potassium application. Also, supplement essential micronutrients like boron, zinc, and molybdenum to ensure optimal plant growth.
3. Choose suitable fertilizer types. It is best to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and avoid over-application of ammonium-based nitrogen sources such as ammonium nitrate. Instead, prefer low-nitrogen, high-concentration compound fertilizers that provide a more balanced nutrient supply.
4. Apply fertilizers in appropriate amounts. Avoid excessive use of chemical fertilizers. For example, limit ammonium bicarbonate to less than 25 kg per acre, ammonium sulfate to under 15 kg per acre, urea to no more than 10 kg per acre, and superphosphate to below 25 kg per acre. When applying, do so carefully and evenly to prevent damage.
5. Encourage deep or furrow application of fertilizers. This method helps protect the nutrients from volatilization, reduces direct harm to seedlings, and prevents surface application of chemical fertilizers. Ensure that the fertilizer is placed at least 10 cm away from the crop roots. After application, water the soil thoroughly to help the nutrients penetrate deeper into the ground.
6. In case of fertilizer burn, immediately water the plants and apply a diluted solution of microbial fertilizer (500 times) through foliar spraying. This can significantly reduce damage and promote recovery.
