Bamboo has been an essential material in various aspects of life since ancient times. Compared to wood, bamboo-based panels exhibit superior physical and mechanical properties, such as high strength, excellent elasticity, and impact resistance, making them a promising alternative to traditional wood-based panels.
The production of bamboo mat plywood involves several unique steps that differ from conventional wood panel manufacturing. The process typically includes: bamboo mat preparation, drying, gluing, blanking, aging, hot pressing, cutting, and inspection. While the final stages are similar to those of regular boards, the earlier steps require specific techniques tailored to bamboo’s characteristics.
First, bamboo mat preparation is crucial. There are two main types of bamboo mats used: crosswise (latitude) and longitudinal (longitude) woven mats, as well as curtain-hanging mats made from bamboo strips. These mats serve as the base for the plywood.
Next, drying the bamboo mats is essential. The ideal moisture content should be between 8% and 20%. If too dry, the material becomes brittle, and resin flow may be compromised. If too wet, it can affect the bonding quality and increase hot-pressing time. Proper drying ensures better performance and appearance.
Gluing is another key step. Two methods are commonly used—manual and machine application. Phenolic and urea-formaldehyde resins are the most common adhesives. Although phenolic glue offers better performance, it comes at a higher cost.
After gluing, the mats need to age or rest before hot pressing. This allows the adhesive to fully penetrate the bamboo, improving bond strength and overall quality.
Blanking involves arranging the mats in either odd or even layers, depending on the desired structure. For warp-and-weft mixed bamboo plywood, the layers must be staggered to ensure uniformity and stability.
Hot pressing requires precise control of temperature, pressure, and time. Urea-formaldehyde glue is typically applied at 120–125°C, while phenolic glue requires 130–140°C. Pressure is generally between 2.5–4 MPa, with longer pressing times for thicker panels.
Today, bamboo mat plywood is one of the fastest-growing products in China’s bamboo-based panel industry. It is widely used as formwork in construction due to its high strength, smooth surface, and durability. It outperforms traditional wooden and steel molds by offering better reusability, ease of demolding, and resistance to water and deformation.
Despite its advantages, the industry is still in its early stages. Challenges like inconsistent quality and limited performance remain. To grow further, there is a need for advanced bamboo processing technologies, high-precision equipment, and improved manufacturing processes. With continued development, bamboo-based panels have great potential to replace traditional materials in many applications.
Metal Bond Diamond Wheels
Metal bonded diamond grinding can be metal
bond diamond grinding wheel or metal bond CBN Grinding Wheels. Diamond and CBN
are two types of super abrasive types. CBN abrasive is mainly used for high
speed steel, mould steel, HSS steel which include big amount of iron portion.
Metal bond Grinding Wheels have advantage
of long life time and high precision conformity. They can also be made to all types
of Grinding Heads and drilling bits. Kemei produces all these metal bond
grinding tools. If you need any type ,please contact us.
Due to different material have different
hardness and toughness, we offer full sizes diamond cutting wheels in metal bond,
