External support device for milling long workpieces

When milling a workpiece on a milling machine that involves multiple pieces, the center of gravity of the workpiece may not align with the center of the table or even extend beyond it. This imbalance in weight distribution can lead to uneven forces during the machining process, causing the worktable to deform and increasing wear on the table surface. In cases where the workpiece is particularly heavy, the machine's worktable may become unable to move at all. To address this issue, an external support device can be installed alongside the milling machine to provide additional stability. The support device typically consists of a slider, a ball cage, a set of balls, an adjusting bolt, and a base. The balls are held in place by the cage beneath the slider and then mounted on the base. Because the balls can roll freely in any direction, the slider is able to move smoothly in any horizontal direction on the base plane, resulting in low friction and highly flexible movement. When using the support device, it should be placed on a stable platform near the milling machine, aligned with the feeding direction of the workpiece for optimal support. Adjust the four bolts to ensure the top surface of the base is level, and also maintain the same height as the milling table. You can further adjust the vertical position of the milling table so that it matches the upper surface of the slider. This ensures that the support device remains in sync with the workpiece both horizontally and vertically, without interfering with the workpiece’s positioning on the table. As the machine feeds, the slider moves along with the workpiece. After completing one end of the workpiece, the head is reversed, and the slider is returned to its original position. The other end can then be machined after re-clamping the workpiece. This system significantly improves the stability and accuracy of machining long or heavy workpieces, reducing the risk of table deformation and enhancing overall machining efficiency. It is especially useful in industrial settings where precision and reliability are essential.
