Let the mobile phone always have new technology: light energy screen
![]() |
On September 6th, it was reported that when a phone runs out of power, you can still send a quick text message. Even if the battery is completely dead, the phone might still be able to save your last location. These innovations are no longer just concepts—they’re real. So, when will we finally see a smartphone that never runs out of power? It sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, but this idea is becoming a reality thanks to a breakthrough technology called Wysips.
Wysips is a revolutionary technology that captures both artificial and natural light and converts it into electricity to power your devices. This innovation can be integrated directly onto the screen of a phone, tablet, or smartwatch, turning any available light into a continuous power source. Current prototypes are already in development, and with just 10 minutes of exposure to light, they can add up to 4 minutes of extra battery life.
The French company SunPartner Group is at the forefront of this advancement, working to improve the efficiency of light-to-energy conversion. They’ve partnered with several companies to bring this technology to future smartphones. According to SunPartner, Wysips represents a new era of photovoltaic technology—technology that transforms sunlight into usable electricity. Their approach involves placing ultra-thin electro-optic layers under a micro-lens network, creating transparent solar cells that blend seamlessly into device screens.
The Wysips crystal component is highly transparent, with a 90% clarity rate, making it nearly invisible to the human eye. These flakes don’t interfere with the screen’s contrast, brightness, or viewing angle. Instead, they act as a mini solar panel, converting ambient light into electricity that’s stored in the phone’s charging coil—just like plugging it into a wall socket or USB port. Earlier versions of the module could generate 2.5 mW/cm² under direct sunlight, adding 2-4 minutes of talk time after 10 minutes of exposure. If the transparency drops to 60-70%, the output increases to 10 mW/cm², potentially extending communication time by 16 minutes after the same amount of exposure.
Recently, SunPartner collaborated with TCL, a Chinese electronics manufacturer, to develop a prototype smartphone incorporating Wysips technology. The first version of this device is expected to be ready by 2014. As this technology continues to evolve, the dream of a phone that never dies may soon become a reality for everyday users. With ongoing improvements and partnerships, the future of mobile power is looking brighter than ever.
