Scientists make graphene magnetic

The world's thinnest and strongest material is now magnetic, proving its potential for use in electronic devices. The 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, Dr. Andre Geim and Dr. Irina Grigorieva led the study. Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a network structure. The researchers incorporated other non-magnetic atoms such as fluorine into the original non-magnetic graphene, or removed some of the carbon atoms from the network structure, leaving a space called holes added to the magnetic atoms such as iron atoms. According to Dr. Irina Grigorieva, this is like being positive. Sir Geim said that the observable magnetism is very small, and even the most magnetic graphene samples will not be sucked into your refrigerator.
