Seedling foliar spray fertilizer is stressful

If seedlings show signs of nutrient deficiency during the growing season, foliar spraying can be an effective way to boost their nutrition.

Foliar fertilization works by allowing plants to absorb nutrients through their stomata and epidermis. This method can be applied throughout the growing season. Young leaves are particularly efficient at absorbing nutrients because they have a higher number of stomata and a more active physiological state. Additionally, the underside of leaves usually lacks a cuticle and has more pores, making it easier for fertilizers to be absorbed. For best results, both sides of the leaves should be sprayed evenly.

The concentration of foliar fertilizer varies depending on the type of nutrient used. Urea is typically applied at 0.2% to 0.5%, potassium dihydrogen phosphate at 0.3% to 0.5%, and superphosphate at 0.5% to 1%. Potassium sulfate is generally used at 0.05% to 0.1%, ferrous sulfate at 0.2% to 0.5%, zinc sulfate at 0.5% to 1%, borax at 0.1% to 0.2%, ammonium molybdate or sodium molybdate at 0.01%, copper sulfate at 0.01% to 0.02%, and manganese sulfate at 0.05% to 0.1%. It's important to use moderate concentrations, especially during midsummer, to avoid leaf burn and ensure optimal absorption.
