On June 29, a team of 11 technology appraisal experts from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, research institutes, and universities traveled to Guanghan, Sichuan, to evaluate the scientific achievements of the "non-hydrofluoric acid process for the molecular-level preparation of lithium hexafluorophosphate." The expert group confirmed that the world's first industrial verification line for this groundbreaking process has officially started operations. This marks a significant milestone, as it means China no longer relies on foreign technologies for key materials in lithium-ion batteries.

Gan Yong, an academician and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated, "At this stage, whoever controls lithium battery technology will shape the development of the new energy industry." He emphasized that the successful launch of the "non-hydrofluoric acid process for lithium hexafluorophosphate" is a major breakthrough in the field of lithium batteries and new energy technologies. The 100-ton industrial verification line in Sichuan has proven that the technology has reached international standards, demonstrating China’s growing technical leadership.

According to the expert panel, the completion of this verification line signals that China has overcome critical technical barriers in producing lithium hexafluorophosphate, breaking the long-standing monopoly by Japan and South Korea. This advancement is expected to significantly boost the global competitiveness of China’s lithium-ion battery industry.

Li Yao, chairman of Shenzhen Waterma Battery Co., Ltd., told reporters that the application of new technologies in lithium hexafluorophosphate and lithium iron phosphate has led to remarkable improvements in performance while cutting costs by 50%. "In the future, whether it's batteries or battery materials, the core technology will be in China," he said.
