From May 19 to 20, the 3rd China Innovation and Development Forum on Safe Textile and Garment Industry was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. Hosted by the China Industrial Textiles Industry Association, the event brought together key industry leaders, including Wang Tiankai, President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council; Yao Mian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Wang Liming, Director of the Consumer Products Industry Department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Chen Weikang, Deputy Secretary of the China Textile Federation Party Committee; and Li Lingshen, President of the China Industrial Textiles Industry Association. Over 200 representatives from various companies across the textile supply chain attended, engaging in discussions on innovative development models for the sector.
Wang Liming emphasized that since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan," the industrial textiles sector has experienced its most promising growth period. He highlighted how global and domestic changes have driven the transformation of traditional industries, significantly boosting the rapid development of industrial textiles and contributing to structural adjustments within the broader textile industry. The rise of high-tech materials has also led to increased profitability for the sector. Looking ahead, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will actively support policy development, such as the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" and the integration of industry with information technology, ensuring that relevant issues are included in the plan to guide future efforts.
After a signing ceremony, Wang Tiankai, Yao Mian, and Wang Liming were photographed with company representatives.
Policy direction and market demand remain crucial drivers for the textile industry's evolution. According to UN forecasts, by 2050, global fiber processing is expected to reach 253 million tons, with 171 million tons being industrial textiles—accounting for 67.4% of the total. Yao Mian pointed out that industrial textiles serve as foundational materials for equipment, making them a major driver of growth in the textile sector. He urged the industry to focus on developing products with advanced performance, new functions, special structures, unique applications, fine precision, and superior quality.
Dr. Shi Wei from the Institute of Military and Military Equipment Research delivered a lecture on the current status and challenges of textile static control technology, while also analyzing the security needs of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. His insights provided valuable guidance for the sustainable development of the industry.
Li Lingshen acknowledged the bright future of industrial textiles but also identified several challenges, including weak standardization, insufficient downstream awareness, limited industry integration, constraints in special fibers and manufacturing technologies, and gaps in brand strategy and quality assurance. He proposed a path toward upgrading the industry, shifting from low-value production to high-value-added innovation, from energy-intensive and polluting processes to more sustainable methods, and from expansion-driven growth to intensive development. He also emphasized the need to move from manufacturing to R&D, design, and brand services.
A major highlight of the forum was the signing of four key projects under the Special Union for Safety and Protective Textiles. Established in 2012, the alliance focuses on core technology research, standard development, public innovation platforms, market expansion, and building an integrity mechanism. These initiatives aim to address current challenges in the safety protection textiles industry.
Liu Qiang, Chairman of Shaanxi Yuanfeng Textile Technology Research Co., Ltd., shared his perspective on the strategic importance of these collaborations. He noted that the signing of the four projects marks the start of deeper cooperation among alliance members and represents a significant step toward technological innovation and mutual growth in the industry.
