Waterproof bathroom "four in place"

When it comes to home decoration, the quality of the bathroom and kitchen is often a top concern. In particular, waterproofing in the bathroom is critical. Any issues here can lead to serious problems—like water damage, mold growth, and even conflicts with neighbors. To ensure a long-lasting and safe bathroom, there are four key points you must pay attention to during the waterproofing process.

First, make sure the floor is properly leveled. If you're replacing tiles, remove the old ones first, then use cement mortar to level the surface before applying waterproofing. This helps prevent uneven thickness that could lead to leaks over time.

Second, don’t forget about the seams. The joints between walls, pipes, and the floor are common trouble spots. Be thorough when applying waterproof coatings—make sure every seam is fully covered to avoid future issues.

Third, focus on the walls. A 30 cm high waterproof coating is standard for bathroom walls. However, if the wall is a non-load-bearing lightweight one, cover the entire wall with waterproof material. If you have a shower enclosure or a bathtub, be sure to extend the coating to the sides and around the tub for full protection.

Finally, conduct a proper waterproof test. After the work is done, block all the drains and build a small barrier at the entrance of the bathroom. Then fill the area with 20 cm of water and leave it overnight. After 24 hours, check the walls and floor for any signs of leakage. This test is essential to guarantee the effectiveness of your waterproofing project and should never be skipped.
